Daca urmariti cu atentie eticheta e in romaneste si cred ca doar in Romania cineva ar pune atata efort intr-o copiuta. Probabil ca toate reforma educatiei ar trebuie sa se bazeze pe eliminarea acestei boli din invatamantul romanesc, copiatul...

I have a disease. Every time that I travel somewhere I take a book from home to read on the road. This is not the disease! It is that every time I also feel an urge to buy at least one other book in the airport. Sometime this brings me in touch with books that otherwise I would not read. I guess this disease comes from my habit back in Romania when I was picking up rather random books from a bookstore or library.
On Friday my eyes felt on the cover above. I do not know if it was about the red color, or about having the female body, or about being a dictionary. It was love at first line reading. I immediately went and bought it and it did not leave my hands till I got in Chicago. A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers is about one year spend in London and Europe by a Chinese girl in order to learn English. The book is written as a diary and a dictionary in broken English, an English that is improving as you go on reading.
It is a journey of meeting the West through the eyes of a village Chinese 23 years old girl. Meeting the "filthy water" , the baked beans that look like having been chewed by someone and then spitted back on the plate. A girl that leaves China to find the London fog, but finds love and discovers a totally new world, a world in which she was used to be part of a family back home and now she learns that the western way is to be alone. Overall is a book about meeting different cultures, trying to learn new languages things that people not living abroad for a long time will never know. Probably this was the reason why this book touched me so much.

In ultimul timp de fiecare data cand vin in statele unite se intampla si cate o tragedie in unul din caupusurile americane. De data asta a fost vorba de North Illinois University. NIU nu este o universitate oarecare, nu este departe de partea din america pe care o cunosc. Pe langa acest campus trece I88 autostrada care face legatura intre suburbiile din Vest (unde se afla si Fermilab) si Downtown. Vineri treceam pe langa acest campus la o zi dupa ce un fost student a omorat mai multi colegi. Sincer am si incetat sa mai urmaresc cu multa atentie exact ceea ce s-a intamplat, aceste evenimente pur si simplu nu mai sunt anormale pentru mine. M-am obisnuit cu ele si sunt ca un fel de stirile de la ora 5 din Romania.
Ceea ce m-a frapat a fost o discutie intre doi profesori in sociologie. Unul dintre ei cerea ca armele sa nu poata fie aduse in campus. Celalalt era pe pozitia opusa spunand ca fiecare profesor ar trebui sa poarte arma la el pentru a putea impiedica/sau limita intamplarea unei astfel de tragedii.

Cam asa se intampla cand nu vezi padurea din cauza unui copac. Pacat ca totdeauna, in orice societate copacul e mai usor si mai repede vazut decat padurea.

In timpul grevei scenaristilor Conan O'Brian a adus din culisele show-ului in direct incercarea de a dobora timpul in care verigheta lui se roteste pe birou. Dupa un timp acesta este ajutat de Peter Fisher, profesor la MIT, sa isi depaseasca recordul. Primele doua clipuri sunt despre depasirea recordului, ultimul povesteste istoria acestei incercari. Vizionare placuta !

Desi poate le-ati vazut in Blogroll , vreau sa atrag atentia asupra a doua bloguri.

Primul Eu si fantasmele ... care de cand l-am descoperit prin intermediul blogului Alexandrei Ivan il citesc aproape in fiecare zi aducandu-mi aminte de o lume pe care aproape am uitat-o , lumea poeziei.
